French Impressionist filmmaker, theorist, and literary critic (1897–1953) best remembered for his screen adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. ALS in French, one page, 8.25 x 10.75, May 12, 1921. Untranslated letter in French to the director of “Courrier de la Presse” in Paris, listing some of his important works, including “La Poesie d’aujourd’hui” and “Le Phenomene Litteraire.” He also signs within the text, “Jean Epstein.” The original mailing envelope is filed out in Epstein’s hand and affixed to the reverse. In very good condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds (the vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), moderate toning to borders, and a few light creases.
