Description

The tenor sax legend’s well-traveled passport

Gordon’s personal passport, number Z3171878, issued on November 4, 1977. Passport measures 3.5 x 5, and contains his typed personal information on the second page, signed in full at the bottom, “Dexter Keith Gordon.” Affixed on the adjoining page, opposite the personal information page is Gordon’s 2.5 x 2.5 passport snapshot, signed vertically in the left border, “Dexter Gordon.” Balance of the pages bear numerous visa stamps from all over the world, dated between 1978 and 1982, including those from Germany, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Guadeloupe, Sweden, Brazil, England, Japan, Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia, and Nicaragua. In fine condition, with expected handling wear, some adhesive remnants to the front cover, and one set of loose adjoining pages. This passport dates to shortly after his ‘homecoming’ to the US from Europe, where he had lived from 1962 to 1976. During his time back in the US, Gordon continued to release albums to much critical acclaim, solidifying his rank as one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of all-time. RR Auction COA.
