LS signed “A. Lincoln,” one page, 5 x 5.5, Springfield, Illinois, February 7, 1861. Letter to Emmie E. Johnston. In full: “I take great pleasure in sending you my autograph which Mr. Hay has requested for you.” Two die-cut floral scrapbook cards are affixed to the sheet. Nicely matted with two original unsigned cartes-de-visite, one depicting the Lincoln family and one featuring Lincoln surrounded by his cabinet and top generals, to an overall size of 16 x 9.75. In very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling, none affecting the crisp signature. A terrific letter written less than a month before he would be inaugurated as president, with an interesting reference to his private secretary and future secretary of state, John Hay. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
