Partly-printed DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as president and “James Madison” as secretary of state, one page, 20.5 x 17, August 20, 1806. A four-language ship’s papers issued to William Coggeshall, “master or commander of the Schooner called Remittance…lying at present at the port of Savannah bound for St. Croix and laden with Tobacco, Nails & Lumber.” Grandly gilt-matted and framed with four commemorative portrait plates, three of which are gold-inlaid, sterling silver portrait plates issued in a limited edition by the Franklin Mint in the early-to-mid 1970s to an overall size of 51 x 28.5. Intersecting folds, a few small tears and areas of paper loss along a couple of the folds, and a few areas of light toning, one from the notary’s red wax seal, otherwise fine condition. The white wafer seal is worn, but intact. A very presentable example of a most desirable combination of presidents boasting a particularly crisp Jefferson signature. Oversized.
