Hoffman (1898–1985) is considered the father of US weightlifting. Schemansky, aka Mr. Weightlifting, won four Olympic medals, each in a separate year. Two items: one TLS from Bob Hoffman to Bill Good (a famous early weightlifting champion) signed in pencil, “Bob,” one page, 8.5 x 11, York Oil Burner Company letterhead, March 15, 1932 (the year he launched the world famous York Barbell). In part: “Team #3 thinks that they can beat your team if you should count the same fellows again. I don’t believe that they can but it will give everyone something to look forward to and strive for”; and one Strength and Health magazine from January 1946, 8.5 x 11.5, featuring Hoffman on the cover, signed on the front cover in red felt tip by Norbert Schemansky.
