Thomas Dixon, Jr

Southern author, playwright, actor, lecturer, lawyer, and minister (1864–1946) best known for his novel The Clansman, which inspired D. W. Griffith's film The Birth of a Nation. TLS signed “Thomas Dixon,” one page, 7 x 10.25, personal letterhead, January 25, 1930. Letter to a gentleman. In part: “I appreciate your kindness in giving me a chance at this work and your helping me start…Just now I am going through the darkest hours I have ever experienced in life—with long serious illness in the home and tragic financial losses.” Dixon also penned his telephone number at the conclusion. In fine condition, with light toning to borders. RR Auction COA.
