Alexander Webb

Union general (1835–1911) who received the Medal of Honor for leading the Philadelphia Brigade in the face of Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg. After the war he spent 30 years as President of City College of New York. DS, signed “Alex. S. Webb, Pres.,” one page, 8.25 x 4.75, October 24, 1896. Invoice to the City College of New York for a “Rankine Steam Engine” purchased from the D. Van Nostrand Company. Approved at the conclusion by Webb. In fine condition, with intersecting folds and light soiling. RR Auction COA.
