“Discharge all who are found unfit for further service”

Civil War-dated LS, one page, lightly-lined, 7.5 x 10.5, Memphis, September 5, 1863. Letter to two surgeons. In full: “You will hold a careful survey upon the sick in Hospital Pinkney and recommend for discharge all who are found unfit for further service in the squadron except those who may be entitled to pensions.” Scattered foxing and soiling to the upper left, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned original carte-de-visite full-length portrait of Porter in uniform. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
