Description

Virtually nonexistant signature on his scarceNational Portrait Gallery calling cards

Signed personal calling card of Brady, 3.5 x 1.75, with “Mr. M. B. Brady, National Portrait Gallery, 625 Pa. Ave,” printed on the front, with Brady writing on the reverse, “Dine E. O. Top 5.00, M. B. Brady.” In fine condition, with uniform very mild soiling, not detracting from the legibility or clarity of the signature. Due to Brady’s increasingly poor eyesight, most ‘signed’ material was actually written by his assistants, and comprised mainly of invitations to dignitaries to have their portraits taken. While works of Brady’s are regularly available, this is the first authentically signed item of the famed photographer we have offered in over 30 years. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
