Description

After finishing ‘The Virgin,’ Wyeth receives an opulent shearling coat

ALS signed “Andy,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, September 12, 1969. Letter to a friend. In part: “Delighted to know the great coat is being shipped from Europe—please hold the coat till I return from Maine…Have completed a painting I think you will like.” In fine condition. Consignor notes that the painting referred to is ‘The Virgin,’ a full-length nude of Siri Erickson. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, filled out in Wyeth’s hand, and an original color snapshot photo of Wyeth wearing the coat he refers to in the letter, as well as a photocopied letter of provenance from a gentleman whose father was a friend of Wyeth’s and had the coat ordered from Europe. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
