American soldier and statesman (1739–1812) who served as governor of New York and vice president in the Jefferson and Madison administrations. Partly-printed DS, signed “Geo. Clinton,” one page, 12.5 x 8, October 4, 1786. Clinton appoints Staats Morris as “Junior Lieutenant of a Company of Light Infantry in a Regiment of Militia in the City and County of New York.” Paper seal affixed to the upper left remains crisp and entirely intact.
