Description

Scarce wartime portrait of the highly-respected wildlife artist Arthur Radclyffe Dugmore

Renowned artist (1870–1955) who was a pioneering American wildlife photographer, painter, and printmaker. Vintage 9.75 x 14 photo of Dugmore during his service in the British Infantry in World War I, by W. Burden Stage of New York, signed below the image in fountain pen, “Sincerely, A. Radclyffe Dugmore, major, K.O.Y.L.I., Jan 1919.” Some scattered light silvering to edges of image and some light toning and soiling to borders, as well as two small areas of paper loss, otherwise fine condition. Dugmore’s artwork has been offered by many auction houses including Christie’s and Bonhams, but any image of the artist, signed or unsigned, is very elusive. RR Auction COA.
