Original 8 x 5 albumen photo of the officers of the Patapsco sitting on the deck of their ironclad, taken during the Civil War, affixed to its original 9.5 x 7.5 mount. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners, pencil crop marks and notations (one incorrectly identifying the image as the crew of the Monitor), and tape to edges, most of which could be matted out. On January 14, 1865, while participating in obstruction clearance operations in Charleston Harbor, the Patapsco struck a Confederate mine and sank, with heavy loss of life. RR Auction COA.
