In part: “I see that Nichols has a card in the Tribune in which reference is made to me…I wrote at once to Genl Garfield, and, as I may be drawn out on the subject, and am willing to be if it becomes necessary…I am sorry to hear of the illness of Mrs. Garfield.” In very good condition, with pencil notations, intersecting folds, a few smudges to text, and a couple light brushes to signature.
