Polk’s State of the Union admitting Texas to the Union

Printed address of Polk’s address to the Senate on December 9, 1845, 6.25 x 9.5, eight pages, housed in a contemporary folder. Polk’s State of the Union address concerning the annexation of Texas and the country’s relationship with Mexico. In small part: “The terms of annexation which were offered by the United States having been accepted by Texas, the public faith of both parties is solemnly pledged to the compact of their union. Nothing remains to consummate the event but the passage of an act by Congress to admit the State of Texas into the Union upon an equal footing with the original States.” In very good condition, with moderate foxing and dampstaining to pages, several stamps to first page, and some creasing and wrinkling.
