Grant,” three pages on two adjoining black-bordered sheets, 4.5 x 6.75, New York, May 29, [no year]. Letter to a gentleman. In part: “I regret that I can not furnish you with an autograph of my father’s—most of his letters were addressed to persons not with him, so that any of his old friends are better able to grant your request than the members of his immediate family. The best photograph of my father, taken when in the army is Gutenkunst’s…The best engravings were made by Marshall. The first he made is the best of the small ones.” In fine condition.
