Union General who fought at Fredericksburg and Antietam (1813–1898). ALS, one page, 5 x 8, personal letterhead, New York, March 6, 1884. Letter to a gentleman. In part: “I am ‘heinously unprovided,’ as Falstaff says, and some time since determined to sit before a camera worse than looking into a cannon’s mouth, so that I might send you a photograph. My aversion from the process accounts for my delay—But now I think that I must go through the ordeal, & when accomplished will send you a sample of the result.” In fine condition, with a couple light rusty paperclip marks and impressions.
