John Draper

Scientist and pioneer daguerreotypist (1811–1882) who took the first detailed photograph of the moon in 1840. Bank check, 7.25 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Draper, “Jno. W. Draper,” payable to Daniel Draper for $50, June 23, 1879. Check bears a two-cent revenue stamp to the upper left, also initialed by Draper. In fine condition, with multiple vertical folds (one passing through a single letter of the signature), mild overall toning, and expected cancellation cuts and holes. RR Auction COA.
