US navy admiral (1821–1898) who commanded the gunboat Kanawha during the Civil War. Handwritten pencil endorsement on an off-white sheet folded to a size of 3.25 x 4. Febiger writes, “Received at 5 PM, December 28th 1880, Jno.C. Febiger, Commodore.” In fine condition, with all writing a shade or two light, but still completely legible. RR Auction COA.
