American educator and naturalist (1823–1883) who served as president of University of Wisconsin from 1867 to 1870, and president of Williams College from 1872 to 1881. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Chadborne seated by N. P. Jones of Madison Wisconsin, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ink, “Dr. J. S. Newbury [sic], with kind regards of P. A. Chadbourne, Act. 4. 6.” In very good condition, with scattered surface marks and soiling, and slight rippling to top edge. RR Auction COA.
