Description

George W. Morgan

American soldier (1820–1893) who fought in the Texas Revolution, Mexican-American War, and was a Union general; later served as a congressman from Ohio. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Morgan in uniform by M. M. Griswold of Columbus, Ohio, signed in the lower border in black ink, “George W. Morgan.” His name is also written at the bottom of the image in pencil, apparently in his own hand. Notation to reverse indicates the photo was taken in October 1862. Light overall toning and corner tip dings, and silvering to dark areas of the image, otherwise fine condition. RR Auction COA.
