English rhymster (1816–1891) known as ‘Poet Close.’ Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo by an anonymous studio, signed in the lower border in black ink, “Faithfully yours, J. Close.” A label affixed to the reverse reads, “Portrait and autograph of J. Close, The Westmoreland Poet.
