Two items: wartime TLS, one page, 7 x 8.75, February 17, 1944. Letter to a woman informing her that her husband has been killed. In part: “Your husband was killed while flying from Ford, in Sussex, back to this Station…The pilot was a Canadian called Suggitt… regret to say that they crashed into a hill while flying in cloud. The whole crew died instantly except Suggitt, who although unconscious, remained alive for two days. Your husband…looked after us not only as an Intelligence Officer, but also as a friend, and I don’t think that any loss could mean more to us than his.”; and a glossy 5 x 7 photo of Cheshire, from the Imperial War Museum and officially stamped on the reverse, signed in blue felt tip. In fine condition. RR Auction COA.
