German-born Turkish general (1827–1878) whose real name was Ludwig Karl Friedrich Detroit. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ink in French (translated): “To Madamoiselle Sophie with fond remembrance on behalf of her very devoted servant Mehemet Ali, Choumla, February 17, 1867.” In very good condition, with a couple edge tears and light peeling to bottom of image, pencil notation to bottom border, and scattered light toning to both sides.
