John C. Calhoun

Prominent American politician (1782–1850) who served as vice president under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson and later wielded great power and influence in the Senate as a champion of Southern causes, including slavery. LS signed “J C Calhoun,” one page, 8 x 9.5, July 22, 1824. Letter to the Commissary General of Subsistence. In full: “It is intended to revive the general regulations of the Army: you will repost as soon as practicable whether any and what parts of the regulations above mentioned require in your opinion, alteration or amendment.” In very good condition, with uniform toning, a few small edge tears, several ink and pencil notations, and some light mirroring of ink.
