TLS signed “Ted,” one page, 6.25 x 8.5, personal letterhead, June 24, 1968. Letter to Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, with Kennedy handwriting the salutation at the top, “Dear Margy and Bob.” In part: “Joan and I want you to know how grateful we are for your message. At a time of sadness, nothing is more helpful than hearing from a friend. All of the members of the Kennedy family are comforted to know that others share our grief. It is easier to bear Bob’s loss when we know that the qualities we loved in him were loved by many beyond ourselves. Those of us who loved Bob, and those of us who believed in his ideals, hope and pray that what he was, and what he wished for others, will come to pass some day soon. I am sure his dreams and his hopes still remain alive, and it is up to each of us to decide how we can carry them forward.” Kennedy also adds a handwritten postscript which reads, “What a friend you both have been to all the family. None of us will ever forget how Bob loved you both.” In fine condition. Letter originates from the Estate of Robert S. McNamara. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
