Webster’s personally-owned set of his Complete Works

Signed book: The Works of Daniel Webster, Volume I. First edition, subscriber’s copy. Boston: Charles C. Little and James Brown, 1851. Hardcover, 6.5 x 9.5, 457 pages. Signed on the ‘subscriber’s copy’ page in black ink, “Dan’l Webster.” The other five volumes of the set are included, unsigned. Also accompanied by Webster’s personal box for his papers. Autographic condition: fine. Book condition: VG-/None. Green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine; edges worn, with small tears in cloth at corners and spine-ends; spine sunned; rubbing and soiling to exterior; hinge near front partially cracked; foxing to first/last few pages, heaviest at illustration/tissue pages. Remainder of set in comparable condition. An absolutely astounding piece of history from the personal collection of the influential statesman. RR Auction COA.
