Composer (1859–1924) best known for such popular operettas as Babes in Toyland and Naughty Marietta. Vintage matte-finish 10 x 12 portrait of Herbert with an image area of 6 x 8, signed and inscribed in the upper border in black ink, “To my very dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Winter, with all good wishes, Victor Herbert, Sept. 11th, 1915.” To the upper left, Herbert has added a brief three-bar AMQS from his 1911 opera Natoma. Photo affixed to a same-size mount. In very good condition, with a small tear to the upper border (slightly affecting inscription), light foxing and toning to borders, some spotting and silvering to the image, and a couple chips to the left edge. Accompanied by an original unsigned 13.5 x 6.5 photo of Herbert and two other gentlemen standing in front of the Pittsburgh Symphony circa 1915, affixed to a 20 x 13 mount.
