Description

Desmond Tutu

TLS, two pages, 8.25 x 11.5, Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town letterhead, August 7, 1995. Letter to a teacher about the formation of a South African constitution. In part; “There is currently much debate about whether the specific reference to God should be left out of the new Constitution which is now being drafted. Under apartheid, we had a constitution that invoked the name of God most solemnly after its introduction and thereafter God was systematically ignored in the most blatantly vicious and ungodly legislation and government actions imaginable. It is in fact blasphemous to invoke God and then carry out laws that are so utterly ungodly.” In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical folds. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. RRAuction COA.
