ALS signed “Meigs,” four pages, lightly-lined both sides, 5 x 8, October 7, 1878. Letter regarding an invention. In part: “I on Saturday as advised applied for a Patent for the reflector…I suspect it will be found that some one has already patented its equivalent…When your furniture goes forward I hope to send with it a sample.” Meigs has sketched a diagram of his reflector on the second page. In fine condition, with some mild show-through from writing on opposing sides. Meigs held multiple patents for candlestick and lamp reflectors, which is what this letter undoubtedly refers to.
