Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “James Monroe” as president and “John Quincy Adams” as secretary of state, one page, 11 x 15, April 19, 1823. Scalloped-top ship’s pass reads, in part: “Suffer the Ship Aeolus of New York, Joshua Gerr master or commander…mounted with one gun navigated with eleven men to pass with her company passengers goods and merchandise, without any hindrance, seizure or molestation.” Signed at the conclusion by Monroe and countersigned by Adams. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of Monroe’s signature, scattered creases. Small hole to top left, mounting remnants to reverse, a couple pencil notations and both signatures a bit light, but completely legible, otherwise very good condition. The seal is worn and cracked, but intact. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
