Description

“The bracelet belonged to the wife of Edgar A. Poe”

Popular American poet and author (1820–1871). ALS, two pages, lightly-lined on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, January 19, no year. Letter to “Mr. Putnam.” In part: “I send a prose sketch, with this, which has the merit, if no other, of being almost literally true. The bracelet came into my possession just as I have stated…Most of the characters are living within a few blocks of me. The bracelet belonged to the wife of Edgar A. Poe, and of course Poe himself is the person whose visits to the second hand shop are set forth in the sketch.” Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet. In fine condition, with a few brushes to ink throughout the text, and a small hole to the top. Accompanied by an unsigned carte-de-visite bust portrait of Cary. RRAuction COA.
