Description

Ultra rare handwritten lyrics for ‘Drunk on the Moon,’ from Waits’s sophomore album

Incredibly scarce, handwritten working lyrics for ‘Drunk on the Moon,’ which appeared on his 1974 album, Heart of Saturday Night, on the reverse of an 11 x 8.5 sheet of Ebbets Field, Denver, Colorado, stationery. Waits pens two verses and the chorus to the song in red ballpoint on one half of the page, and several other partial phrases and notes on the other half including “shit on a shingle,” “creme chip beef on toast,” “pin a rose on a cheese sand,” and “slacks and trousers and rebel rousers peculiar foot gear.” Intersecting folds, overall creasing and wrinkling, scattered soiling, and a few small edge tears, otherwise very good condition. Ebbets Field in Denver, named after the famed Brooklyn Dodgers ballpark, was a small club in the early to late 70s which held just 238 people which made for an intimate setting between performer and audience. Waits appeared there twice in 1974 and 1975. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
