ANS in Russian, signed “I. Stalin,” one page, 5.5 x 7.25, January 22, 1938. Short note written by Stalin beneath a handwritten letter to him from his daughter Svetlana, whom he called Setanka. His daughter writes (translated): “To Secretary N1. Stalin. N3. Gdanov. Secret. Order N 8. Order you to take me to the movies now, to see the film ‘Volga-Volga.’ Setanka the owner,” adding a small facial sketch, and “signatures of the secretaries,” with two arrows and a duck drawing. Underneath Stalin writes: “I. Stalin, To Obey” adding “Poorman – Stalin.” In fine condition. The musical comedy Volga-Volga, released in 1938, became Stalin's favorite film and he would often show off how well he knew it by performing every part just before the actors on screen.
