P. G. T. Beauregard

Brigadier General of the Confederate Provisional Army (1818–1893) who commanded the forces at Charleston, where he ordered the bombardment of Fort Sumter. ALS signed “G. T. Beauregard,” one page, lightly-lined, 5 x 8, March 18, 1887. Letter to “Sarony, Phot’er.” In part: “I want you to duplicate me the order for one dozen of my phot’s bought by me last October, when I was stopping at the N. Y. Hotel—Please send your bill with them. P. S. I want the ‘backs’ to be light colored, so that I may…sign my name thereon.” Light scattered creases to the top, some show-through from mounting remnants to reverse, and a pencil notation to left border, otherwise fine condition.
