Description

Oversized photo of the ‘Illustrious Vagabonds’ before the Panama–Pacific International Exposition of 1915

Light-stock photo by Hartsook, 14 x 11, depicting Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Luther Burbank, and many others in front of Burbank’s home in California in 1915, where they were to attend the Panama–Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. In fine condition, with light corner tip dings. Edison, Ford, and Firestone, along with John Burroughs, styled themselves ‘The Illustrious Vagabonds’ and traveled the country between 1914 and 1925, this being one of their stops. They were close to Burbank, a botanist and agricultural pioneer, and though it was an unlikely group of friends, all shared the same curiosity about the world that drove innovation in all fields during the early part of the 20th century.
