Union general (1826–1885) hailed at the beginning of the Civil War as the ‘Young Napoleon,’ who was defeated for the presidency in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite three-quarter length portrait of McClellan in uniform, by E. & H. T. Anthony of New York, signed in the lower border in black ink, “Geo. B. McClellan, Maj. Gnl USA.” Light scattered marks, speckling, and foxing to the image, light dings to the lower corner tips, and trivial silvering to dark areas of the image, otherwise fine condition.
