Partly-printed DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 15 x 18.5, December 28, 1880. President Hayes appoints William Moffatt a “Second Lieutenant in the Second Regiment of Infantry in service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Hayes, and countersigned by Secretary of War Alexander Ramsey. Double suede matted and framed with a portrait and a biographical plaque to an overall size of 34 x 28.5. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, some scattered light soiling, and Hayes’s signature a shade light, but completely legible. Oversized.
