Horace Greeley

Founder and editor of the New York Tribune (1811–1872) who used the power of his newspaper to advocate for a variety of liberal causes, most importantly the call for emancipation of slaves during the Civil War. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite profile photo by Bogardus & Bendann Brothers of New York, signed in the lower border in black ink. A few scattered light surface marks, mild silvering to darker areas of image, and tape remnants along reverse edges, otherwise fine condition. RR Auction COA.
