A president of the Continental Congress and signer of the Articles of Confederation (1741–1785), who also served as Washington’s aide-de-camp during the Revolutionary War. Ink signature, “I am with much Respects etc Dr Sir, Your Affect & Hble Serv, J. Reed,” on an off-white 6.5 x 2 slip clipped from the closing of a letter, dated March 12, 1778. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one horizontal fold passing through the signature, scattered toning, and some show-through from writing to the reverse. RR Auction COA.
