Partly-printed vellum DS, one page, 15.25 x 18.75, January 13, 1917. President Wilson appoints Howard L. Landers as “Captain of Field Artillery, by transfer from the Coast Artillery Corps.” Signed at the conclusion by Wilson and countersigned by Secretary of War Newton D. Baker. Also signed in the upper left by Adjutant General Henry Pinckney McCain, Senator John McCain’s uncle. Complete blue War Office seal affixed to the lower left. In very good to fine condition, with light storage folds and scattered creases, some foxing and soiling to the lower portion of the document, and the end of the signature light but legible. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
