Description

Bloody Saturday

World famous and important image entitled ‘Bloody Saturday.’ Vintage 1937 gelatin silver International News Photo, 8.5 x 6.5 inches, showing a crying baby after the Japanese bombing of the Shanghai South Railway Station on August 28, 1937. Often ranked as the most famous image of the 1930s, it was shot by Hearst Corporation photographer H. S. Wong. The image is sharp and clear and has cropping editorial notes in the lower white border. The back has a vintage brown International News Photos caption tag, editorial notes, later newspaper clippings and a variety of date stamps, the oldest being September 18, 1937. There is a small tear in the lower right, waves, wrinkles and other wear. As this was a working press/publishing photo, general wear and usage is standard. Presents well with a sharp and clear vintage image. RR Auction COA.
