Quality original 1860s thick leather-bound photo album, 6 x 6 x 2.5, containing approximately 26 original 1860s gem tintype cartes-de-visite, most with original photographers’ paper tags affixed to reverse. The cards are attractively stylized, with printed and embossed designs bearing head shot portraits, presumably of family and friends of the album owner. They resemble regular carte-de-visite photographs, except they have genuine tiny tintypes for the images, each approximately the size of a nickel. The embossed and ornate dark leather album bears its original and intact metal latches. Album shows heavy wear, including split leather in parts and general wear and surface damage. Front manufacturer’s page indicates the album was patented in 1863. Photos show light wear with sharp, clear images. RR Auction COA.
