Description

Scarce early photo of the Petersen House, Lincoln’s final refuge across from Ford’s Theatre

Late 1890s photograph of the Petersen House, 5 x 3.75, affixed to a slightly larger mount bearing a vintage ink notation to the lower border. After being shot at Ford's Theater, Lincoln was taken across the street to this house, where he died the next morning. Though there is no Kodak stamping, this may be a scarce example of an early Kodak snapshot, which was a similar size and style. RR Auction COA.
