Vintage circa 1959 oversized World Wide Photos news photo, 10.75 x 14, reproducing the iconic Nat Fein Pulitzer Prize winning image of the terminally ill Babe Ruth appearing in New York's Yankee Stadium for the retirement of his number. Unusually large for a period news photo, the reverse has the World Wide Photos stamp and the front has their original paper caption affixed to the lower left. The image is sharp and clear, though the photo has various wear including light age staining on back, edge and corner dings, surface wrinkles and mild rippling throughout the image and a crease near the upper left corner. One of the most famous and beloved American sports images, with the frail Ruth using a baseball bat as a cane. He died just two months after the image was shot. RR Auction COA.
