Mason orders a midshipman to “proceed to Norfolk, VA, by the 15th inst. and report to Commo. Sloat for duty on board the U.S. Frigate Raritan.” Signed by Young at the conclusion and endorsed by Sloat, “Rep’d 17th Nov 1848, John D.
