“You are hereby informed that you have passed a satisfactory examination before this Board”

President of the military commission trying the conspirators involved with the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. LS signed “D. Hunter,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 9.75, September 25, 1867. Letter to Lieutenant L. H. Orleman. In full: “You are hereby informed that you have passed a satisfactory examination before this Board according to the Act of Congress approved July 28th 1866.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds and scattered toning and dampstaining.
