AQS on an off-white 4.75 x 7.5 sheet. Sumner pens a quote from a speech. In full: “Not that I love the Union less, but freedom more, do I now. In pleading this great cause, insist that freedom, at all hazard, shall be preserved.” Signed at the conclusion, “Charles Sumner, Washington, 21st March ‘54.” In fine condition, with some scattered light toning.
