Distinguished author (1811–1896) whose epochal 1852 novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin brought the issue of slavery to the forefront of American consciousness and became one of the classics of 19th century literature. AQS on an off-white 4.25 x 6.5 sheet with “Autograph, Presented to the fair for the New England Hospital for Women and Children,” printed at the top. Stowe pens a biblical quote from Matthew 25: 40. In full: “ In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Signed at the conclusion, “H. B. Stowe.” Sheet is also imprinted “Boston, Dec., 1881.” In fine condition, with a central horizontal fold and mild toning. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
