Scarce vintage 4 x 5.5 photo of Whitman resting his head in his hand, affixed to its original 6 x 8.5 mount, signed on the mount in black ink, “Walt Whitman.” Notation in another hand under signature states “Reproduced by Doubleday Page & Co for ‘Letters of Anne Gilchrist and Walt Whitman.’ The signature is a genuine autograph.” In very good condition, with silvering to image (visible only at an angle), a couple repaired tears to mount, and some scattered light toning, creasing, and soiling to mount.
